The Relationship between Attentional Ability and Cyclic AMP Concentration in Pediatric Patients with Allegy

Abstract
Objectives:
@EN Allergic children have long been reported to have multiple behavior problems. Among them, attentional ability disorder is one of the most common problems. Attentional ability is known to be related to adrenergic function, which is also
regarded
as
one of the etiological factors of the allergic diseases. We evaluated the ¥â-adrenergic function and the attentional ability in the patients with allergic diseases. And we examined relationships between the ¥â-adrenergic receptor function and the
attentional ability.
@ES Methods:
@EN We examined in allergic patients the attentional ability with test of attention(T. O. V. A.), one of the standardized continuous performance tests, and administered child behavior checklist(CBCL) to parents of 35 pediatric patients with
allergic
diseases. We also measured both isoproterenol-and forskolin-stimulated cyclic AMP accumulation ratios in the lymphocytes of the patients, We analyzed the correlation among T. O. V. A. scores, CBCL scores and the cyclic AMP accumulation ratios.
@ES Results:
@EN 1) The T. O. V. A. scores were positively correlated with the hyperactivity scores of CBCL(p<0.05).
2) The variability scores of T. O. V.A were negatively correlated with the isoproterenolstimulated cyclic AMP accumulation ratios(p<0.05).
3) The hyperactivity scores of CBCL were negatively correlated with the forskolin-stimulated cyclic AMP accumulation ratios(p<0.05).
@ES Conclusions:
@N These results suggest that the ¥â-adrenergic hyporesponsiveness assessed with cyclic-AMP may be related to the attentional ability in the pediatric patients with allergy.
